"You are so much alone with him as if you were the only being He had ever created. When Christ died, He died for you individually just as if you had been the only man in the world." -C.S. Lewis

Week 12 -

Where to start. Christmas was great! We worked so hard Christmas Eve visiting everyone possible and reading them the birth of Christ and sharing candy. It was the greatest, I had the best day ever. We visited with the Mendoza Family and they gave us cold oranges and then the dad just started playing the Eagles and I was like am I in heaven, what is this??!!! And then he started playing all this 80's music and then I was like do you have Lady in Red... and he goes chica in rojo, si si! ha and i just about died!!!! and he played it and honestly I felt the spirit super strong and I knew it was my Christmas present from my Heavenly Father, it was perfect. Same thing for Christmas day, I got to Skype my family which was just amazing! You guys are all just a bunch of lookers! hot hot. I'm glad you all had an amazing day. Anyways the point is Christmas on the mission was incredible. Chistmas day we visited with Florencia Moroni my favorite lady ever, picture below, and we just sang her hymns and visited with her, and then as a gift to myself I asked someone to be baptized, they said no, ha. But I poured my soul out to them and I know they wanted to say yes!

Its getting pretty hot here, well hotter, we were in a lesson the other day, our last one of the day and my companion was so sick so I gave the whole lesson and she was just so glazed over, I had no idea.  Then we finished the lesson and realized it was 9:27 and our curfew is 9:30, so my companion thought it would be a good idea to run home! and she is so sick! and im telling her it's fine, it's fine don't run as I eat my brownie haha and she insisted on running and then all the sudden I just see her lean against the wall and she yells sister I can't do it my body is shutting down and she starts falling so I grab her and all her things and we are in a dark street and I have her and I just felt like we couldn't stay there, so I said hermana we have to go, you can do this, put all your weight on me, and she starts crying as I'm carrying her home.  I didn't know what to do so I just said - think of Peter, walk on water hermana, what could you do if Christs hand was stretched out for you. How far could you go and she leaned her head on me and she made it home and we gave her a lot of water. All is well now... healthy as an ox.

My companion and I had our first baptism this week!!!!! And it was amazing. Sweet David. Everyone he wanted to have baptize him was out of town. He asked for Hermano Vidues but he was in cochabomba getting endowed (another great story) but Hermano Vidues is a life long friend of David's father and so he really wanted him. We had a crazy day leading up to his baptism, we visited with David the morning of because he still hadn't told his parents he was getting baptized. So we talked to him and he said that he had told them and they were happy and great. so we believed him.. Later that day we were with a member and she said I saw David and his mom today and asked if they were coming to the party after the baptism and the mom said yeah, who's getting baptized! and the member goes; your son! and the mom goes what! why didn't you tell me this... what are you thinking?  You have to tell me these things, we have to talk to your father, what are you thinking and David goes whatever he says i'm still going to my baptism. haha.  Such a sweet heart. After that Hermano Vidues calls us and says; hey hermanas I'm in town early and I can baptize David! We were just overjoyed and hermano Vidues had the strongest spirit, he had been waiting 13 years to be endowed and now he is endowed and already using his authority. So his baptism rolls around and yep he didn't show up! So the Vidues goes to his house and the brother said he had left with his parents; so we thought the parents were hiding him! So we called the parents and they said they were on their way out, so we told them everyone is waiting for them and they said they would come right now! And i'll tell you what; when David pulled up I've never been so happy. He changed into his white clothes and the spirit was so strong, we took pictures and then Hermano Vidues walked in his white clothes and David just lit up, his dad stood up and gave him a huge hug and with tears in his eyes said, you take care of my son okay. The whole baptism was so beautiful, and  afterwards the dad came up to us and said thank you so much for this, thank you for everything. We were so shocked and so happy. The members were so amazing with him and they all asked when he was next. Theres nothing better then seeing a family all together in church. I love this work.

WEEK 11 - Two days before CHRISTmas!!

Navidad is close around the corner! and I cant wait to work harder then I ever have before.  Some people have asked a little about what it is like here, so I will try to explain a little.  Everything is in bags, all drinks and juices are in bags, everyone owns a little store, it seems, so no one has food in their house... they just buy the food they need for that day right before they cook it. They put your soda in bags with a straw.. its funny. Everyone here chews coca leaves, so they all look like they have big golf balls in the side of their cheeks. Toliets dont flush here, you just grab a bucket of dirty water you washed your clothes in(to save water) and raise it up really high and pour it in the toliet to flush it. Some people are lucky and have flushers, I am one of those people! The mission takes good care of us and we have working luxurys such as that.

Its been a great week; Anjelica is officail a rescutata! We were helping her with her roses the other day and she was trying to win this radio contest so she brought her cute little radio player in and while she walked away I turned to Hermana Lopez and I was like; lets pray for her to win! and she was like; uh can we do that??ha. I just wanted her to win so bad. So we started to pray and we just started busting up laughing, we eventually got through it and then it was time to listen.... and the winner is... angelica!!!!! We freaked out haha...not much. She won a magazine and a cd, she was so cute.  I just love her.

We have the most wonderrful investigators. WE have a baptism this saturday for David, and he is just my favoirte person, please pray for him and his sweet family, let the spirit guide your words as you pray for them and it will let you know there needs and know the love the Savior has for them. You won't regret it. It's getting hotter and hotter everyday.  Sometimes I feel like I can't breathe, but God is working miracles to help me walk in the heat and not faint.

With Christmas so close I think of the Savior obviously and Wow, my brother, he really is not just our Savior but our brother. I think about my brother, Trenton and how much I love him and then I think of the Savior as my brother as well, and it gives such a different perspective. Just close your eyes, picture the Savior of the world.  He loves you, yes He loves you. And He loves your brother, so save your brother, that is OUR mission here. Save your family and save your brother.

This gospel is everything. Share the light of Christ this Christmas.  Help the missionaries... cheesy I know, but they need you.  They are there to help you with your missionary work.

I love you all!

My family -   I got your package for Christmas and I don't deserve a single thing in that box. You have spoiled me beyond belief.   I love you all with all my heart.

I love this work with all my heart.

WEEK 10 -

Day two of being out in the field I ask Angelika to be baptized my first time ever asking someone, and she says yes. She is just amazing, she loves the gospel and was so excited every time we come over. We always give her son candy and when they pray together well its just the cutest thing. So two days before her baptism we go over to her house to walk her to her baptismal interview, we get there and seriously she is just radiating with the spirit and happiness. She says to us hermans I have something I want to show you! she comes back and hands us a piece of paper... it read, certificate of Baptism and Confirmation, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was already baptized!

Hermana Lopez and I just started laughing, and I was like Hermana este es muy bueno! trying to contain myself... ha-ha. She had been a member for thirteen years! she was baptized in Cochabamba. We told her all she needed was a interview with the bishop and she was good! Her son yells, "I wanted to go to a baptism!"  haha.  Needless to say it was hilarious and Angelika is our first rescutata! which is great cause our focus is menos activos.

But life is good here, we got to go to the centro on our p-day! It was so cool and we had great gelato.  We just had one of our investigators have an emergency moving. We went to her house and some new person answered the door and said Carla doesnt live her anymore haha. oh thanks...

But we have had so many miracles. An investigator that we left 4 weeks ago, we stopped by her house to drop off a picture and she invited us in and we read a liohana talk with her and she just started talking and we both just knew....I looked at my companion (this investigator is everything to my companion, she has worked so much with her) and I said; ask her to be baptized. She gave me a terrified look and I said don't be afraid.  She asked her to be baptized and before she even finished the question she said yes. The rest of the visit was filled with tears and a beautiful prayer on our knees for the beauitful way that the Lord prepares us for this restored gospel.

You would be absolutley amazed if you saw how much I am able to eat... its truly a miracle.
A blessing from God. But guess what; my pensunista loves me the most cause I always eat it all, and the other day she gave us so much food and the dad comes in and was like wow you are such a good eater and the mom was like I know... do you want more?, and I honestly don't know what I was thinking, I just love how good they feel when I eat their food; they get so happy, so I said SURE! She lite up and turned to make me more and I just put my head on the table and said:  Lord give me strength... what have I done??, haha. And guess what! I got sick the next day and was in bed with a fever, But I have apple cider vinegar so I was all better the next day and now I just say; oh sorry hermana I'm still sick and she feeds me less. Don't worry I'm not huge, I walk a ton and whenever your sick you loose a ton. but yeah its all about the people right!!

Our days are filled with the spirit and an overwhelming love for these people it hurts. The spirit is amazing. It always keeps us safe. We will often be walking down a street and the spirit tells us to go find another street so we do, it even told us once to just go home, when it was late at night, so we are well taken care of and your prayers make all the difference. Thank you for everything!

WEEK 9 - Dec 9th,2013

I feel like I was just sitting here yesterday  writing emails, we are so busy that the time goes by incredibly fast, yet we get so much done. I can't tell you how much  a blessing members are. We had an investigator who constantly said no to being baptised yet she loved the church so we brought with as a convert to our lesson and her whole heart changed. She had this convert who went exactly what she is going through and made her feel so confortable that she finally said yes to baptism!! what a blessing and she is absolutley amazing. So go out with your missionaries! if you haven't heard it enough, but they truly need how awesome you are.

From the moment I met David and Carlos I knew I was here to teach them. I love them so much. They are amzing and there family is amazing too. the mom is a menos activo and the father isnt a member but he is amzing he works so hard for his family and the boys are some of the most respectful, loving young men I\I have ever met.  I think I want to adopt them as my brothers. We had the most amazing lesson yesterday and the spirit was so strong. They all have baptismal dates. I am so honored to be apart of this with them if the holy spirit just lets me be apart of this baptism I'll be so happy. Oh how the "worth of one soul" is so great.

Food is good but man they give you so much its like man vs food trying to get it done. So for Christmas I have an idea! If anyone who reads this could just do one nice thing for someone, and I mean really go out of your way to do seomthing thoughtful and kind and then WRITE ME ABOUT IT, I would absolutley love that!! Truly its so cheesy but that's this life. I would love to wake up on Christmas day and have a letter to read of an inspiring stroy and I would love it from everyone even if I hardly know you. Christmas is the Saviors birth... a time for reflection love and family, there are so many people here who have nothing and broken homes.

This work is so hard,

But when  my body begs for rest, I give to myself this ralying call, REMEMBER HIM!!!

I Stand All Amazed,

WEEK 8 - Happy ThanksGiving!!

Not much to say this week! All is well, getting hotter and hotter everyday. They say you're not a North American missionary in Bolivia till you've gone to the hospital but I'm going strong! I've got apple cider vinegar. Thanksgiving was, well i forgot it was thanksgiving! i just preached the good word. My pensunista made stomach for us two days ago... and that's all i have to say about that. A nice big plate of it. The thought is still pretty fresh in my mind.

We have another investigator with a baptism date as of yesterday! she is so awesome. We are really excited. We had a lesson with one of our soonest baptisms and we go into the lesson and he goes I've been talking to another church... and they said all this stuff about you guys and he was so confused it was so heart breaking! the whole time in my head i was like; oh my brother my brother please come home with us please. So right then and there we got done on our knees and made him pray and afterwards listen, he sat in silence for like 3 minutes staright; the spirit was so strong!

A lot of woman here have a lot of marriage problems, its so hard. We often find ourselves holding these sweet woman as the cry with the afflictions, we do our best to console them and spread the love of Christ within there hearts. Our area is really tough but we have three now with a date and they are all so amazing. I love this work i just  want to be as humble as the dust and spiritually wash everyone's feet. Maybe even actually wash someone feet.... just like Christ! He is the best. I pretend while I'm walking I'm walking with him.
sorry I don't take a lot of pictures, I forget and when I'm out I don't like to take out my camera and we never have time anyways. This work takes the whole of you.

How beautiful are the feet of those that preach the gospel of peace.

From her Mission President~   Dear Family,

We are so happy to have met your wonderful missionary! We are so honored to work with her here in the Bolivia Santa Cruz Mission. It is obvious in her countenance that she has been prepared to serve the Lord at this time of the hastening of His work.

"And blessed are they who shall seek to bring forth my Zion at that day, for they shall have the gift and the power of the Holy Ghost; and if they endure unto the end they shall be lifted up at the last day, and shall be saved in the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb; and whoso shall publish peace, yea tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall they be."(1 Nephi 13:37)

Every time we look into the face of Sister Ellison we are reminded of the great love that God has for her and also of the great love, that you at home, have for this great missionary. We know that you pray for her every day. We also feel great love for her and pray every day for her well-being, spiritual growth, and happiness. We know that God hears and answers these prayers.

We have two daughters that are serving missions at this time. We also know of the tender feelings that come with having a missionary out in the field. We know that your influence will continue to be a great strength to your missionary. Your favorite scriptures, spiritual experiences, and expressions of love in weekly emails and handwritten letters will help them feel confidence in their ability to do this great work.

We thank you for all you have done and all you will continue to do to bless the work of  the salvation of God's children here in Bolivia. How grateful we are to have Sister Ellison here in the Bolivia Santa Cruz Mission. We love her so much! Please respond to let us know you received this email!

                                                                            With love,
                                                                            President and Sister Willard
Here she is with her companion Hermana Lopez.

Week 7 - First week serving her mission in Bolivia!

Oh my heavens it is so hot here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its great though. I'm just pretty sweaty and nice all the time. I have no choice but to put my hair up everyday. Im here in the third ring! the city is in the middle and then there are eight rings around it. I'm in the third.  I'm the only one that stayed in the city area from my old district, the rest were flown out to outside areas. I don't even know how to describe it here honestly! Its great though, feels like home already. We walk alot. My companion had only been here for 6 weeks before I got here!
yeah thats unheard of; so she is still finishing her training while she trains me!!! Its crazy. She was so scared at first but she is absolutely amazing. We are so similar and we work so well together.
Her spanish is awesome so she helps me alot and I push her to do things. I'm the more aggressive one. ha I'm like...k ask him to be baptized, talk to me just say do it and she is like okay yeah lets!   Power house team.
My area is hmmm.. everyone lives in like there own little compound so they have some kind of gate or a brick wall with a iron door thing and you use the lock to bang on the door or just yell and then you go into the compound and its like like rooms inside these brick shacks....I don't know how to describe it. But the people are so kind, seriously amazing. They are just relaxed to the extreme.... so its like i'll totally come to church be baptized why not and then you never hear from them again cause they are always sleeping. and Bolivian time is like you say 4 okay and you really me like 6:30. The members in our ward are just so nice and so loving its amazing! They don't have anyone to play the piano and they don't know the songs so I'm going to start practicing the piano instead of dinner time and they are teaching them how to read music and sing in relief society.... its way cool!!! Supposedly the era of knocking doors is over! and we are supposed to only work with the members and focus on referrals and menos activos but its a new concept that our ward is still working on so we still knock doors but we are trying to get them involved! its hard! we have a pensunista who cooks lunch for us and we make our own breakfast and dinner. The food is good so far! I had some famous Bolivian soup the other day pascata. or something. it was interesting!
I wish I could tell you what was in it!....  hahaha.
I'm getting pretty dirty here so its going great. I'm working hard. There are lots of chickens and dogs everywhere.  Thanksgiving was fun! ha we celebrated a little by knocking on doors! I just love talking to everyone and praying with everyone we meet. We met this lady who is a Cholita meaning she is like a traditional Bolivian and she is so tiny and 80 years old and we help her carry her bags to this brick she sits on the side of the road and she told us she was in so much pain so I was like we are going to pray for you right now so we got on our knees in the dirt and said a prayer for her.... probably my favorite moment so far. Have hope. Let hope elude from you bones. be made of hope, do everything with hope. May the hope oh his glory and of eternal life rest in our minds forever.

I'M HERE!!!!  - Week 6  - Arrived in Bolivia

We got woken up this morning at 5:30am from a call from Elise at the Lima Peru airport.  We were lucky enough to speak to her for just over an hour.  We all talked to her and her sisters didn't go to Seminary.  It was wonderful to hear her voice and hear about all the things she is experiencing.  She is so excited to start the Mission part of her Mission.  She is ready for Bolivia and was so happy to be traveling.  She is getting her companion when she arrives, so today all the District 11 group were traveling together.  They left the Bogota MTC at midnight and traveled through the night on the Redeye.  Layover in Lima and then off to Bolivia.  Here is the email we received confirming that she arrived safely.   She is ready for letters and emails.  She says letters would be great because she doesn't have lots of time with the email, so she can re-read letters.  She is doing GREAT!  her parents love her.

From Elise;     I'm HERE!!!...OH my gosh I love it so much!!!!!! Bolivia is so cool! its like the jungle is green with dirt roads and then you get into the city and its a little more modern but not by much!! Definitely amazing. Its like Africa or Vietnam hah! My mission president and wife are seriously amazing!!!!! I love them so much.  My setting apart was right; they are perfect for me.   My mission president said my companion is my twin, he knows we were supposed to be together in the pre mortal life. How cool.
I love you so much I can't believe I'm here. love you I'm safe and happy
Love you forever

Two more days till I'm outta here and oh my gosh i cant wait!! These last two weeks with the Latinos have been rough. Definitely a culture difference. They are funny though. The Peruvians think I look like Shakira hahahahaha. But yeah not really!! and there is always a hermana playing with my hair no matter what, and they just know me by my rubio hair. they say they can always tell where i am. Nothing to exciting this week just the same old lessons. I want to get started!!!!!!! I honestly cant wait.
The last night as only North Americans all the hermanas snuck into the kitchen and ate all out snacks with the stand-in Presidents children haha. They loved our American food. they are the cutest kids.

We randomly went proselyting the other day last minute, they just opened the gates and said k 40 minutes. so my companion and i just started walking and there was this young adult sitting on a swing so we went up to him and he spoke a little English! my favorite thing! we started talking and i showed him and Book of Mormon and he just loved it and as he was reading the words i just was so overwhelmed with he spirit. and then i was like here let me show you a scripture and he starts reading it and as he is reading he keeps pausing as if he cant believe the words that are on the page after he finished reading he points to the word meditate and he says do you mediate and i said of course its my favorite thing! Its so important to remember to listen after we pray and he said yeah i try to pray often sometimes i even think i hear something... and then he looked up at me with all curiosity that one thought can hold and with so much hope... as if this was the only thought that had ever sat in his mind, and asked do you think god speaks to us. With tears in my eyes i said yes, yes i know it it for a fact because i hear it to. God hears every word you say. I can promise you that. and then he looked down and said i prayed yesterday... i was having such a hard day, my girlfriend was pregnant and she lost the baby. she is actually in the medical center right behind us and that's why i'm out here and then you guys show up so just maybe... and then i finished his sentence with tears in my eyes, yes that's right its because you are special, you are a child of god and he hears you, he answers your prayers and he wants to take care of you. He was so grateful for the book of Mormon, he could believe we would give it to him for free. I told him all of gods love and all of gods answers were in that book.  I promised him i would pray for him as we walked away, Although i never wanted to leave him till i knew he was okay.  I came home and just fell on my knees in gratitude for this work and for the love of this sweet Child of God. God is love and Love cast-eth out fear. When we love we are in the presence of God.

With all the Love i posses,

    Hermana Ellison

Week 4/5.   This was from Last Week Nov. 5th.

So last week I had 49 emails!!! so wow thanks for all the love! and sorry if i wasn't able to get back to you. They only give us an hour!  But im loving Colombia! The food is great! Luckily I lost a lot of weight in Provo so I have some room!  I do miss my organic food though!
I have two companions! One of them is like my same person and the other is the next future relief society president I swear it!  In a few days it will mark my one month mark! can you believe it!  I get my latino compaion tomorrow! She is going to hate me, my spanish is so bad hahaha. Then in a week its off to Bolivia!
Colombia is awesome. I have been to the temple twice! Its beautiful.  I love tracting in the city! The city is crazy.  There is graffety on.. no joke every wall!   There was the coolest spray painting of michael jackson on this one wall!!!!!!! I love it! it was so cool.   The city is mostly brick and broken and dirty, but so much character!  If you look down the ally ways its just packed with two story brick apartments and tons of powerlines. The men dress super nice here! for the most part. Half the people are very stylish and other half less.  They have these horse drawn wagons that wonder around and pick up trash.

Out in the country its beautiful!  We went to this mountian today and its so green and the mountinas are beaultiful. I saw like 12 giant vultures eating this dead pig today!  That was super narghly  . but fun. We went to this salt mine cathederal today. its this catherdral that is inside this old salt mine on the side of the mountain. it was so cool and way creepy!  so now i have all these scary pictures on my camera haha.   We play wall ball like no ones busniess here! and i'm actually pretty good!  I totally dominated and won! i waterfalled the ball and the poor guy had no chance. yesterday my companion had to go to the bathroom late at night and she was scared to walk throught the dark creepy hall and the second she left i was like yeah i need to scare her. so i got two of the other sisters to stand in the hall with me with our hair over our faces and she turned off the bathrrom light, walked into the hall turned on her headlamp and well the rest is history! she was a good sport though. it was hilarious.

Tracting is amazing!   We went to this park and we had been walking around for a while and no one really wanted to listen to us except some guys that wanted to take a picture with us. Then we met luis and victor!  Let me just tell you about Luis! We started talking to him and he was like I have been to 15 different churches I have been searching for god and haven't found him and I know that your message is good! my heart was so full! i couldnt believe how the hand of god was working in his life and he was ready for our message! He was so greatful for the book of mormon and couldn't wait to go to church!  Victor's friend was kind to but defineitly not as ready for our message, he just kept saying bonita bonita and i was like yeah im just going to pretend like i dont understand. haha he was so nice though and it was so amazing to see the difference of someone who had there heart open to Christ! WE gave them the church information and Victor kept asking if it was my number, my spanish isn't that good so i just said okay its mine, my number is the lords now.  haha so he'll just call the missionarys and who knows maybe he'll meet with them.
My favorite thing about the mission is that it isnt about me!!!!! We aren't here to be the smarest elder, the stylish sister, the best scriptorin, know the most about the gospel, we are here to be humble servants of the Lord!! Its a strick get over yourself environment! The number of facebook friends, or instagram followers or how popular or good looking you are doesnt matter here!!! Everything is about the Lord!! this is his work! and its the greatest thing I've ever been apart of!!!  I listen to the spirit soundtrack a lot. the hermans love it. i listen to Dear to the Heart of the Sheperd everyday! i wish that i was that song. I wish that it was made from my the marrow of my bones and the fiber of my being. I wish that i was that beautiful and pure. Send me out into the desert, seeking thy wondering sheep.

I read the best talk, its called and none were with him. Holland goes over all the betrayl great undergoes before he is crucifed. Judas, a witness of his miracles sells christ for 30 pieces of silver. Peter James and John fall asleep three times while Christ is suffering in the garden of gathsemeny, and peter alone denys chrsit three times. Even so Jesus knew that everyone would leave him. through his life he felt the pain of those he helped, he bled from every pore, and his brothers raised him to the cross with nails in his palms, and still this wasn't it.  This all lead up to the moment when he would endure the ultimate suffering. The only real defintion of true agony. The moment when The Father withdrew from his son, and no one was with him.  Chrsit suffered so that we may never be alone. He had to feel what it felt like to have the ultimate suffering that was humanly possible, which is being alone. I challenge you to read the events of the crucifaction of Christ and I gaurentee there is not a soul that can read these events and fully deny with all there heart that he is not the Savoir. We are engraved on the palms of his hands, he will not forget us. He is always there. Do not turn away. Doubt and fear are purly of Satan, the ultimate liar. Heavenly Father is alwasy there. There are no loop holes. Do not loose hope. My heart aches for the soul who has lost hope. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. We must endure to the end. Never loose !

WEEK 3 1/2
A lot of things this week!
Saying goodbye to provo was hard! I really loved it there, that place is so full of legacy, honor, and power of the lord! Colombia is amazing; very different though! when we got here there were only 11 missionaries here!! Then the next day all the lations arrived and there were about 40 of us all together but all the lations left yesterday....back to 15!  I loved talking to my family at the airport; what a blessing! You guys are all so funny! not as funny as me though!

On the plane I got to listen to Les Mis! what a joy! the Epilogy was made for missionaries.  I get to be like the angel Fontine for 18 months. What could be better? The words of Fontine will ring in my ears everyday. I'll sing this in my heart to my brothers,

''Çome with me, where chains will never bind you, all your grief at last is lost behind you. Lord in heaven look down on him in mercy.'"

And how glorious will it be when someone replys,

''Forgive me all your trespasses and take me to your glory.''

This shall be my joy and ill sing,

''Take my hand I'll lead you to salvation, take my love for love is everlasting. Remember the words that once were spoken, to love another person is to see the face of God.''

What marvelous words! Take my love for love is everlasting! is love not eternal? I am bursting at the seems to love! I am here to invite others to Christ. Come with me where chains will never bind you. This gospel sets you free. The hymn "Dear to the Heart of the Shepered" is my new favorite hymn! Everyone listen to it! Its better. the Words are perfect. We got to go proselyting in the streets of Colombia! It was amzing i just wanted to talk to everyone! This old man came up to me and asked who I was and Ijust started talking all in spanish! And i was like; el libro de mormon es muy bella. and in spanish he was like as beutiufl as you young lady haha. I was like; oh stop you're making me blush!  and I totally ran into a pole while I was talking to someone else so I looked super cool!  It hurt.  It started pouring ran the other day! and part of the ceiling of one of the classrooms broke and the end of the hall was so flooded.  It's all fixed now though.  Elder Adam Sevy sang in church and I about cried! okay wait I did.   He sang Come Thou Fount and at the end he sang accapella and in English and I just was like this is the best day ever!!!   I bragged to everyone that he was in my ward.

We went to the Bogata Temple and it was all in spanish and well yeah that was rough but amazing. This is the greatest work on earth, this is my everything. I wish I had more time to write every feeling of my soul. Christ is in the very marrow of my bones. This is my light and everlasting joy!

10/22/2013 - From Parents

Elise departed from SLC this morning..we spoke very briefly very early this morning.  We just got off the phone with her on her plane change in New York Kennedy airport.  We had a wonderful 15 minutes with her that seemed way too short.  Weird, because when your kids are with you, 15 seconds on the phone or text is sometimes enough.  There must be a lesson there!

She loved Provo MTC, but can't wait for Bogota MTC...and to start her Bolivia mission.  We made her do some Spanish speaking and she sounded great.  She sounded so happy and ready and excited for her journey.  We love having her on her mission, but it has only been two weeks tomorrow since she left.  We better start counting in months now.

She said she has received some great emails or DearElder.com mail from people and loves loves loves it when she gets them.  Thank you all for keeping in touch with her.  She recommends email while in the Bogota MTC, as the mail system is not as good; but you can try.

We are looking forward to hearing from her again on her Week 3, but for now, we will cherish the 15 minutes of talk time we were just blessed with.

Proud Pappa!

Week 2 -
Its been a crazy week here! Sorry that I'm about to spell everything wrong! Its been just as amazing as the first week, maybe ever better and worse!  Dallin H. Oaks came and spoke to us for Tuesday devotional. It was amazing. I was in the same room listening to an Apostle. I joined the MTC choir cause I'm obviously super cool! ha! and we got to sing for him... it was so awesome!!
WE sang praise to the man and it was my favorite experience thus far. Choir is the best; everyone should join a choir.
I don't know what the rules are on dancing but I do it all the times in the halls!  I just gotta let it out. Never in the class room and especially not in the gym though.  I'm still getting used to all the rules though.  I walk a lot faster than my companion so I often lose her. whoops.  She's a good sport though; haha. The days are getting faster and we are just learning all the time! Espanol up the wall!  I wish I could just speak in English honestly!  I just have so much to say!  We teach fake investigators in Spanish and its amazing cause the lord totally helps you but there is so much more I want to say!
My district leaves for Colombia on Tuesday! WE are all so excited! I have the best district, we are district 11 so I make everyone do the hunger games symbol.  They love it. My district leader is a clogger! yeah he is the best! Everyone basically just got out of high school so I'm an abuela!  So if any of you were thinking of writing me well... Colombia MTC is pretty bad with mail so emails until Bolivia, you can try though!

The days can be overwhelming and hard but every night when I get down on my knees I am overwhelmed with love for others and the Lords love for me. I am so close to the spirit and the Lord here.  I realize how much of the human brain is restricted.  The light of Christ is expanding my heart and mind.  I understand and love more. I feel the presence of the Savior more and more every second.  I feel his spirit within me and exuding from me.  As I grow, learn, and humble myself there is more room for Christ to be in my soul and that is when the restrictions of the natural man can be lifted and Christ can allow me to have all the abilities I was heavenly endowed with. My line to heavenly father is so pure and clear. That is why it is so hard here because for all these amazing things to happen you have to give up your natural man, and that my friends is hard!!!  One of the hardest things I've ever done... with the greatest reward.  Our real selves are truly waiting for us in Christ.  Get to know the Savior and you will realize how much you already knew him, how he has always been the one person that knows you the best.  Don't wait. There is no excuse good enough to not get to know the man that suffered pain so great that even God himself trembled.

"Nothing will startle us more than when we pass through the veil and realize how well we know our Saviors face."
I love the lord, in him my soul delights.

Week 1- Luggage less and happy!

Sacramento to Salt Lake City, and hour and a half flight, you think they would be able to get your luggage there with you, but nope!!! not a chance!! Not when Satan is around and trying to destroy your mission! kidding. but seriously Satan doesn't stand a chance, cause i'm happy anyways.  I arrived to the MTC with no bags which was kinda nice, got all my stuff, then went straight to class where the teacher only spoke to me in Spanish! Yeah I hardly knew what was going on. After class we had a meeting with the MTC presidency and all the new missionaries. WE sang Called to Serve and it was the first time I've cried since saying goodbye to my family! Well I didn't really cry I was holding back tears as to not look like a newbie. but I was just so overwhelmed by the spirit!!!! I'm overwhelmed by the spirit all the time!!!! I didn't know it was possible to feel this happy. My whole being, every atom, every fiber is complete, whole and perfect. One of the presidency said it is no coincidence you are here on this day on October 9th. You have been preparing for this moment since the pre-mortal existence. You are important and your work is important. You are supposed to be here. What comforting and incredible words. We have lots of language class and workshops.  The other day one of the teachers came up to me after class which I had made a comment in and he said to me you could be teaching this class, you've got it. haha. So I'm the kid that everyone hates and obviously the Monica of the MTC (Monica from Friends).  I'm just kidding. I just always feel so prompted by the spirit to say something.  The other missionaries are so wonderful as well, someone is always saying something so profound and mind opening. My companion is awesome! We are very different and its great.  She is very organized and a diligent student and I'm just in lala land so happy and crying about how beautiful the earth is and just want to sit and read inspiration quotes and talk about how much I love Love and she is like Hermana get it together we need to study our Spanish vocab. So she is god for me and I'm teaching her all about the proper intake of water and healthy eating habits! I'm gunna change her life. Just kidding. She says she is always sick and I'm like perfect I have every holistic remedy you'll need. Waking up at 5:30 am is a doozy, but I'm doing it for the Lord. If we are obident we will receive blessings but if we are obedient with EXACTNESS we will see miracles. I already see the miracles.  The MTC is all abut learning your purpose as a missionary.  Our purpose is to love!!! Its incredible what we are learning, you think you love people then you come here and realize we don't love fully the way we should or are capable of.  They put different people in front of you here at the MTC, put you in hard situations and teach you to love UNCONDITIONALLY!!!  That is the way we should love.  As missionaries we are here to invite and help others come unto Christ and you can't do that if you don't love someone COMPLETELY. and you can't fake this kind of love. Trust me. You'll be happy to know my bags did eventually come! After I had worn the same clothes for a totally of 60 hours of course! So my first night at the MTC I wore a strangers clothes, slept in stale dorm sheets, couldn't talk to any of my loved ones and had none of my things, but I was completely happy.  I did not feel sorry for myself or anger at my circumstance.  The lord will provide. He is real and loves us. Have faith and always press forward.

It's Official....I got my Missionary Badge
I still have a ways to travel

Farewell Talk: This is My Work and My Glory

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to be in front of you today as a future missionary! I was asked to talk on M. Russell Ballard’s talk, “This is My Work and Glory”.  It is a really beautiful talk,  So I felt prompted to speak on the direct title, which comes from Moses chapter 1 verse 39.
but it doesn’t talk directly on this is my work and glory that first comes to mind.
Moses 1:39 For behold, this is my work and my glory- to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
I absolutely love this scripture because it says exactly what Gods number one priority is. It’s for us, his children, to return to him.  He wants to bring men eternal life.  All he wants to do is save us! And when I say us I mean everyone.  He wants everyone to come back to him. So if this is Gods purpose, then what shall our purpose be? The world thinks that this is the greatest question of all time? I’ve watched so many people try to “find themselves” try to find their purpose in this life, when the answer is the simplest one of all.  Our purpose is to come back to him; our purpose is to find Christ.  As a background for some of you who may have forgotten this sweet thought, before we were born on this earth we were spirit angels in heaven with a heavenly father who loved us.  It was planned that a magnificent earth should be created and that everyone who wishes should come down to earth and gain a body and through this body would grow, learn, love and fulfill our greatest potential.  Now when this plan was announced a great war broke out in the heavens. There were two sides to this war, the side that followed Satan’s plan, which was that of no pain and no sorrow, but also of no happiness or freedom and through which Satan would get all the glory and be a merciless dictator.  The other side was that of Jesus Christ, his plan was to die on the cross for each and every one of us so that we could feel pain and sin, and know good and evil, but also have eternal life and the greatest joy imaginable and have ALL the glory go to God the Father. One-third of the hosts of heaven followed Satan and now dwell among us only as evil spirits and deceivers.  The rest of the host of heaven chose to receive a body and come down to earth and reach their full potential. The rest of those wise hosts are you and I.  How wonderful are you. You stood on the side of the savior of the world! You looked into his eyes and recognized the truth and love in his soul and knew he was right.  The hard part is over! We have chosen the winning side, we are here on earth! Each of you picked Christ! I remember sitting in class one day and I looked around and realized that every person in that classroom once knew Christ personally and chose to follow him.  It changed my life. It changed everything about my soul and everything about the way I look at people. From then on I looked at everyone from the soul out.  A soul that is made from God. A soul that is good and wise. A soul that is a child of God. We have all made the right decision to come to earth and live the test of life all that is left to do is come back to him, which in the end is Gods Work and Glory.
Now while we are on this earth there are some things Heavenly Father has asked us to do so that we can join in in his Work and Glory.  I am going to focus on two of those things.
1.     Love. He wants us to have love in our hearts at all times, love for this earth, love for our enemy, and love for every human that we encounter.  God is made of love and when we have love in our hearts then our hearts are made of God.
2.     Give up every fiber of your being to the savior, Jesus Christ.  That way your soul is more his than yours and in this way you become who you were made to be.
When we do these two things we become in harmony with God, and his work and glory (to bring souls unto him) becomes our work and glory.  We are here to love, serve, and give everything to Christ. In Mosiah chapter 2 verse 34 it says,
Moaish 2:34 …Ye are eternally indebted to your heavenly Father, to render him all that you have and are…
What a powerful statement, he created us, he saved us! We owe him everything. And when we give him everything we become an instrument in his hand and can help him in all his work.
Alma 29:9 I know that which the lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.
When we are loving one another and giving ourselves to Christ we are instruments in his hand and help to bring souls unto him. Now, no unclean thing can dwell in the hand of the Lord. So we must be righteous to be a tool unto him. However even if we are not living like we wish we could be or going through trying times, we can still love others, feel God’s love, and serve others.
For those of you who were unaware the missionary age limit for girls used to be 21, meaning as a girl you had to be 21 to serve as a full time missionary like I am about to do, where as a young man served at 19.  It is less common for girls to serve a mission because it is not a requirement from the Lord like it is for the young men.  When you serve as a missionary you have to be worthy to be an instrument of the Lord, you have to be living the commandments to be clean in his hand. Last October I was sitting in my apartment watching general conference with my roommate. The President of the church, Thomas S. Monson, stood on the pulpit and began his announcements. He started talking about missionaries and how there have been several missionaries that were allowed to serve at the age of 18 and were great attributions.  He then announced that the age limit was officially changed for men of the church to 18. I was silent, in shock.  He then said, “Concerning the young women of the church…” With these words my heart stopped, I sat silent completely overwhelmed as to what I was about to hear, “Woman are now allowed to serve missions at the age of 19.” That’s my age. A whole two-year difference. And the first thought that popped into my head was, I am worthy to serve him.  The lord has called on me, called on many, and I AM WORTHY. I couldn’t believe in that moment that I was worthy to serve the lord, that I was living my life accordingly that I could jump right in and serve the lord. I have never had such a humbling experience. The lord calls on us to help him at unexpected times and to be ready when he calls you… that is the most joyess feeling I have ever felt. No matter your age, situation, trials, be prepared to be called.  Because we don’t know when or what, but the Lord will call on us.  We must stand in the light of righteousness and be worthy at all times and in all things and in all places. He knows we are not perfect, but he knows what we are capable of, so we must try each day to be a little better, be a little more worthy to serve him. Repentance is our greatest gift and the Lord gives it to us so willingly.  I am so grateful in that moment that I had previously taken advantage of repentance, I was so glad that I did not put off the repentance process, I did not procrastinate and I was ready. He is so merciful because he loves us and needs us to serve him. Being righteous, taking full advantage of the atonement and repentance has given me more opportunities to serve, grow, learn, and live then I could have ever imagined. Because I live in the light he guides me on the path that I was always supposed to be on. I have seen and done things I could have never imagined or appreciated without him. I look at my life and am so grateful that I put it in the hands of the lord because he made it better than I ever could.
One of my favorite singers, this angel, sings a song called Kings, Queens, Beggars and Thieves and it is so beautiful, it has become my theme for my mission. There is a line that goes, “I stood in the heated halls and I played for the king and the queens, I went out in the blistering cold and I played for the beggars and thieves, I saw the pain in their eyes fade away as they listened to me, and I will carry that weight back home.” He plays for the kings and they are blinded by pride so much so that they don’t care about his message, he then plays for those who have nothing, they have nothing blocking them from hearing his sweet message, so they listened and he eased their pain! That’s what the gospel does, when you are humble and listen it eases your every pain! It lifts your every burden! How dare us not share that sweet message with our brothers and sisters. We should carry that weight of those less fortunate to not have the gospel. Our job as members should be to bring souls to heaven. That is Gods Work and Glory and so should it be ours. In D&C 42:45 it reads,
45 thou shalt live together in love, insomuch that thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die, and more especially for those that have not hope of a glorious resurrection.
Here Christ is saying that we should morn with those that morn, yes that is easy for us, we naturally get sad when we lose a person or when someone else looses someone.  But here he says MORE ESPECIALLY then that, weep for those that do not have a hope of a glorious resurrection. He is saying that sadder than the saddest thing we can imagine, which is loosing a loved one, is a person that doesn’t believe in Christ.  To all of us it should hurt more, give us more grief, to know that there are people out there that don’t believe in their savior and brother Jesus Christ. To me I agree that is the saddest thing. But how wonderful that we can fix it! We can fix it today, tomorrow and everyday we are on this earth.
Now not all of us are missionaries and none of us will be full time missionaries forever, but we can be missionaries at home and we can do something very simply that is totally in line with Gods Work and Glory and that is loving thy brother as thy love thy self.  Love is my favorite thing.
In a wonderful booked title, “Mans search for meaning.” Victor Frankl, the author, is telling the story of his survival through life in a concentration camp during the holocaust.  He describes the misery of the camp and if you read it… well it is true misery.  At one point something simple happens to him and he says this, “The truth- that love is the ultimate and the highest goal to which man can aspire. Then I grasped the meaning of the greatest secret that human poetry and human thought and belief have to impart. The salvation of man is through love and in love. I understand how a man who has nothing left in this world still may know bliss, be it only for a brief moment, in the contemplation of his beloved… For the first time in my life I was able to understand the meaning of the words, ‘the angels are lost in the perpetual contemplation of an infinite glory.’… Love goes very far beyond the physical person of the beloved.  It finds its deepest meaning in his spiritual being, his inner self.  Weather or not he is actually present, whether or not he is still alive at all, ceases somehow to be of importance.”
Love is not a person or an object love is in us.  It’s a spiritual feeling, a spiritual understanding.   When we feel love within us it is because we understand something, we realize we are different, we are created for a higher being. We are meant for other worlds. We are the only creature on earth that love. We are made of God. I know this because I feel it all the time. Every time I listen to a beautiful song I love it so much, I feel it deep within my soul and it hurts because I cant love it enough and I know that I am meant to love it more. I can’t wait to get to heaven and love the way we were supposed to, we are so restricted here but when we give ourselves to Christ he opens our spectrums.
John chapter 13 is one of my favorite scripture stories. It is the last supper before Christ goes to die on the cross.  After he partakes of the last supper with his disciples the savior of the world gets down on his hands and knees and washes the disciples feet. After he does this he says to them,
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that yea are my disciples, if ye have loved one to another.
The way to be a disciple, the way to show that you are of God is to love one another. We must love everyone! We cannot have any ill feelings and gossip filled sentences toward anyone. Why would we want to? Why would we want to hurt our brothers? We were not made from hate therefore we are not made TO hate!  Hating is not our nature. We learned to hate and this is why we do it, but it is not who we are. We are made from love.
Now all these things that I have talked about are wonderful. Love, service, finding Christ, but above all the most glorious, most rewarding thing we can do is give up every fiber of our being to Christ. I promise you wont regret it.  Once you find Christ you will want to be with him more than anything else in the world, he will be your everything and you his. C.S Lewis says in his book Mere Christianity, “The Christian way is different: harder, and easier. Christ says ‘Give me All. I don’t want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work: I want you.  I have not come to torment your natural self, but to kill it. No half-measures are any good. I don’t want to cut off a branch here and a branch there, I want to have the whole tree down. I don’t want to drill the tooth, or crown it, or stop it, but to have it out. Hand over the whole natural self, all desires which you think innocent as well as the ones you think wicked - the whole outfit. I will give you a new self instead. In fact, I will give you Myself: my own will shall become yours.’”
I know that believing in God, believing in something that you have never seen before is scary I know that following his commandments and giving up your favorite sin or favorite temptation is hard. It’s kind of like jumping off a cliff.  You are literally taking a leap of faith! When you look over the edge your thoughts may consist of, “This is terrifying, I am satisfied up here, why would I jump!” But we are not made to be confined by a ledge. When you jump you will find that you do not plummet down into the darkness or to your death, no, you fall quickly into the arms of the lord. When you jump for him he surly will catch you and he opens your eyes to everything you were meant to be.  I promise you if you take the leap of faith you will understand things you never thought you could. You will feel more yourself than ever possible before.
One of my favorite thoughts comes from C.S Lewis, “It is when I turn to Christ, when I give myself up to His Personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own… give up yourself, and you will find your real self. Lose your life and you will save it. Submit to death, death of your ambitions and favorite wishes every day and death of your whole body in the end: submit with every fiber of your being, and you will find eternal life. Keep back nothing. Nothing that you have not given away will be really yours. Nothing in you that has not died will ever be raised from the dead. Look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in.” I felt prompted the other day to obtain a Book of Mormon, highlight it and address it.  I still have no idea who I am supposed to give it to, but I know it is for someone special and I cant wait to find them.  I would like to leave with you my testimony that I wrote to this mystery person on the front page.
“Dear _____, this book has brought me more joy and more comfort than anything else in my life. I know that the words written are from the mouth of God and directly for you and I. I know that every word is saturated in the love of the Lord and is complete and total truth. I know that as you read these words with an open mind and a soft heart you too will find them to be true, as they were made for you. The gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was made for all mankind.  It is perfect for us because it is who we are. Christ is apart of our souls.  We are forever and always have been children of God.  There is no sin too great for God to forgive.  No wound to deep for God to heal.  No person to far for Gods love to reach.  Look to God and all your questions will be answered, you will find everything you were looking for.  Because of this gospel life has more purpose, the world is more beautiful, colors more vibrant, love is deeper, and happiness is everlasting.  A piece of heaven is within us, a piece of home is calling.”
I know that God exists, he loves us.  I know that Jesus Christ died for each of us so we may return to him.  He died for us as if each of us where the only person who ever existed. I know that this is the true church on earth because it does not hate. It does not talk ill about anyone else nor any other religion. It does not have literature on why other religions are false or wrong.  The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints focuses on God and that is why it is true! Because it does not need to put others down to look right.  And I know when a religion does speak wrongfully about other religions it is because they do not have the full truth. When something is true all it needs to focus on is Christ and that is enough. I owe my savior my life and I am honored to give fully 18 months of my life to him.  Everything is for him.  If I died and no one knew who I was, but they knew that I loved Christ that would be enough.  I am a child of God. I am a servant of the Lord. I am nothing compared to him, but I am everything to him.  I love love, I love being in the presence of love, and I love my family.  Every night I get on my knees and pray and I can’t believe that I have such a beautiful family.  My mother is my light, my father is my hero, and my brother and sisters are my greatest friends and supporters. I love them and more importantly I know that Christ loves them. I know that Christ loves you. I am grateful for ever breathe I take, every song I hear, every person I meet, and ever day God freely gives me.  God has a plan, faithfully follow Him.
I save these things in the name of Jesus Christ, The Light of the World. Amen.
